From the recording Roughing It

This was from my songwriting session. I was fortunate to have been able to get the whole thing down in one relatively usable take; the other songs from this session did not get the same treatment. Written for my wife mid-year.

Lyrics

For a moment
Let's be who we really are
Let yourself go
And I'll let down my guard

Give me your kindness
I'll give you my beating heart
Together we'll light up a fire
To fight the dark

A moment ago
We never were
Then the brush of your lips
Ignites my universe
And we will dance all night
By the light of the afterglow

For a moment
We're in the stratosphere
We're suffocating,
Aching from gravity

Give me your hand, now
And let fall your every fear
I don't know where we'll land
But I know I want you here

Please don't go away
We'll take things slowly
I've taken my knocks
But I promise I'm still in
For what we never were
But we could be, once again

For a moment
Standing alone and scared
Anticipating
Hopelessly unprepared

Give me a moment
to know that you're really there
Then take all I am for always
I'm yours, I swear

A moment ago
We never were
Then the brush of your lips
Ignites my universe
And we will dance all night
By the light of the afterglow

A moment ago
We never were
Then the brush of your lips
Ignites my universe
And we'll dance all night
By the light of the afterglow

Baby, let's dance all our lives
By the light of this afterglow
